Anthony Bewley is Consultant Dermatologist at Barts Health NHS Trust (The Royal London Hospital and Whipps Cross University Hospital) and an honorary senior lecturer at Queen Mary College of Medicine, University of London, all in London, UK. He qualified from Bristol Medical School, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK, in 1987 and trained in general dermatology at UCH London Hospital and Westminster Hospital in London, and Southampton University Hospital in Southampton, UK, becoming a consultant in 1996.
Dr Bewley’s research interests include dermatological diseases such as acne, vitiligo, psoriasis, and dermatitis. He has developed a special interest in psychodermatology (the links between psychiatry, psychology, and dermatology) and holds a specialist psychodermatology clinic at least every week at The Royal London Hospital. Dr Bewley is the Lead for clinical research in Barts Health dermatology unit, the Principal and Chief Investigator for many new research studies every year, the national sub-Lead of the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN), and the North Thames British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) representative.
Dr Bewley has written many peer-reviewed papers, chapters, and textbooks on a variety of skin diseases. He is Co-Editor of Practical psychodermatology (Wiley 2014), Secretary of the European Society for Dermatology and Psychiatry (ESDaP) (www.psychodermatology.net), and Co-Chair of Psychodermatology UK (www.psychodermatology.co.uk).
