Professor Matthias Augustin, MD, PhD, is the Director of the Institute for Health Services Research in Dermatology and Nursing (since 2004) at the University of Hamburg, and former Vice Director of the Department of Dermatology andVenereology, University Medical Center Freiburg, in Germany, where he received his PhD in 1989. He also teaches Medicine at the University Medical Centre in Hamburg.
Patient registries, epidemiology, quality of healthcare, and health policy are the focus of Professor Augustin’s research at the Institute for Health Services Research in Dermatology and Nursing. He is also an expert on healthcare of chronic wounds.
Professor Augustin has received several scientific awards, including the German Wound Prize. Additionally, he is a member of various national and international scientific societies, including the German Society for Dermatology and the European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology. He also is one of the founding members and a spokesperson of the regional psoriasis network in Germany (PsoNet). He is the (co-)author of more than 620 scientific and medical papers and 27 medical text books, and a peer reviewer for 25 scientific journals, including Lancet and British Journal of Dermatology.
