Iago Rodríguez-Lago is a gastroenterologist at the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) unit at the Hospital de Galdakao in Bilbao, Spain. Dr Rodríguez-Lago graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, in 2008 then undertook gastroenterology training at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona. After a clinical fellowship in IBD at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, UK, and experience at the endoscopy unit of the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussels, Belgium, he returned to Spain and took up his current post in 2014.

Dr Rodríguez-Lago’s main research interest is IBD. He was awarded a PhD cum laude for his thesis entitled “Preclinical inflammatory bowel disease: clinical characteristics, prognosis, and treatment requirements” and has been the Principal Investigator on 10 multicentre studies on IBD. He has authored 7 book chapters and 65 publications indexed in PubMed, in peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis, Gastroenterology, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. In 2021 he became a trainee editor of the United European Gastroenterology Journal. He was a coordinator of the Young IBD Group of GETECCU, the Spanish IBD Working Group, between 2016 and 2020, and is now a member of the GETECCU governing board.
